Quality

From the very outset quality has always been at the forefront of the company ethos. This has been achieved by way of investment over the 40 years of trading and expanding the QA departments workplace experience as well as the metrology equipment.

This includes, Digital Height Gauge, Digital Hardness Testing Machine, Vickers Machine, all of which are complemented by the latest Material Analyzer and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).

  • Advanced Hexagon Global S Green 7.15.5 CMM coordinate measuring machinery. The Coordinate Measuring Machine Pushing Productivity Further allows us to inspect and measure your components to industry leading standards.
  • Highly accurate measurements down to 0.5 of a micron
  • Multi-sensor Extended thermal compensation (16-26 °C  temperature range) ensures best accuracy even in  fluctuating temperature conditions

Motive Going Forward!

With the new generation of camshafts that are coming through and the complexity of measuring the sensors, gears, sprockets as well as identifying the timing slots that are used to work in conjunction with the timing tool set up, we have been discovering what equipment we would need to measure these.

Our previous system of using the CamPro Plus was now being tested to its full capacity. We researched many other alternatives and established which stand-alone vertical cam measuring machines are available. These were good machines, but to try and find one that would take cams up to nearly 2 metres was becoming a hard task and then to have them work out all the sensors and sprockets was still proving to be a problem.

We visited many labs who displayed the capabilities of their machines. We decided that this was not the solution we need and that the best option for our future was that bigger investment would have to be made to have a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) that would benefit all of our requirements.

We decided to work with a company specialising in these types of machines, namely Hexagon, this company has put together a programme that suits our requirements exactly. We knew that if it was good enough for F1 Racing Teams, it would be good enough for us. A big benefit with this is that we now have a machine that works to 0.5 Microns within the dedicated temperature range that houses the CMM.

By investing in this, we now have the ability to run all sprockets, gears and our full range of over 600 camshafts to be checked before loading onto our database. This is a time-consuming project, but to be able to batch test any camshaft that comes through the door within approximately 20 minutes is a remarkable achievement and enables us to offer a fully printed report indicating all aspects of the camshaft.

It will also give us the ability to accurately measure any parts we decide to put through the CMM.
